Know This—A Bible Study on 2 Peter

As Peter was nearing his death, he wanted to ensure that people knew what is truly important. Throughout his second epistle, the Greek word “epigenosis”, meaning an intimate experiential knowledge of the Person of Jesus Christ, is used by Peter 16 times. He witnessed Christ’s works of wonder, Word, and ultimately, His suffering, death, and resurrection. He knew Jesus because he walked with Him.

With what he’s witnessed and experienced, Peter now encourages us to likewise know Jesus intimately. By knowing Christ deeply, intimately, and experientially, we are able to grow and do what God has designed us to do.

Peter does so by sharing the promises of God given to believers who have come to trust and know Christ. He places these promises of abundant life in contrast to the world’s promises that lead to destruction. He also assures believers of the hope and promise of Jesus Christ’s return!
