In a noisy, chaotic world, what actually made the first disciples stand out? Not their arguments. Not their strategy. Their love. Jesus said it plainly the night before He died: love one another. Simple to say. Almost impossible to live — until you understand what He meant, why it's possible, and what it costs. That's what this study is about.
THE PREMISE
In John 13–17 — known as the Upper Room Discourse — Jesus spends His final hours with the disciples unpacking one command from every angle: how to love, why they can, and what happens when they do. Author Mark Rae calls these five chapters "The Book of Love."
This 15-session study walks you through it verse by verse:
- Chapter 13 – The Proclamation: To love one another
- Chapter 14 – The Power: The Holy Spirit
- Chapter 15 – The Partnership: Abiding in Christ
- Chapter 16 – The Practical: How to love as Christ did
- Chapter 17 – The Prayer: Christ's prayer for us to love

What You'll Discover:
- Why Jesus washed His disciples' feet — and what it means for how you serve others
- The three provisions God gives you to love supernaturally (Christ, the Father, the Spirit)
- What it really means to "abide in the vine" — and why fruitless seasons aren't a crisis
- How to recognize and respond when the world pushes back against radical love
- The seven things Jesus prayed for you, specifically, before He went to the cross
Why This Study?
This isn't a surface-level read. Each session breaks down the original Greek, walks through verse-by-verse commentary, and ends with reflection questions designed to move truth from your head to your life. Whether you study with us on-site or online, you'll come away asking not just "what do I know?" but "what will I do with what I know?"
